Samantha and James’ Elopement in Venice
There’s something truly magical about Venice in November. The crisp air, the soft light, and the quiet charm of the city- It's just cold enough to wear a light jacket. Not to mention, the hot, sweaty season (with many of the tourists) have left along with it. What's left is a slowness that feels authentically Venetian. And let me tell you what - I'm convinced it's the most romantic place you can choose for your elopement!
Sam and James began their elopement day at the lovely Palazzetto Foscari, a beautiful and cozy retreat that felt like their own private haven in the heart of Venice. After taking their time to get ready and their emotional first look, we boarded a private boat to head toward their ceremony location. Honestly, the boat ride itself was a highlight—just the two of them surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Venice. We made a few stops along the way to capture some moments because, honestly, how could we not?
Their ceremony took place at the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, a fairytale like venue known for its iconic spiral staircase. The ceremony location itself overlooked the city of Venice. After the ceremony, we wandered through Saint Mark’s Square. The late afternoon light was golden and soft, casting a dreamy glow over the entire piazza. And finally as the day drew to a close, we ended with a gondola ride through Venice’s canals. It was the perfect finale—romantic, peaceful, and quintessentially Venetian.
Eloping in Venice isn't just a dream, it can be a reality. I'd suggest eloping in Venice if you want an intimate and unforgettable experience in one of the most romantic cities in the world. Here are 5 recommendations for anyone planning to elope in this magical city!
1. Choose an Intimate Location
Venice is full of beautiful, hidden spots that are perfect for an elopement. If you’re after something more private and romantic than the bustling St. Mark’s Square, consider places like the Rialto Bridge at dawn, the peaceful Giardini della Biennale gardens, or even a gondola ride through the canals. Finding a quieter, picturesque corner of the city can make your ceremony feel truly special and personal.
2. Hire a Photographer Who Knows Venice (That’s Me!)
Venice is a photographer’s paradise, but it takes someone familiar with the city's winding streets, canals, and hidden gems to capture it perfectly.
3. Plan for Permits and Paperwork in Advance
Getting married in Venice requires a bit of paperwork, especially for non-Italian citizens. Let me save you the hassle: sign your papers at home, and then celebrate in Venice as your 'real' wedding day!
4. Consider a Local Officiant
For a more authentic experience, consider hiring a local officiant who can add a personal touch to your ceremony. Whether you're looking for a traditional ceremony or something more intimate, there are many officiants in Venice who can offer bilingual services and tailor the ceremony to your wishes. I can suggest some incredible officiants I've worked with in the past!
5. Indulge in a Post-Elopement Celebration
After your intimate ceremony, why not celebrate with a private gondola ride through the canals or a romantic dinner at a cozy Venetian restaurant? Venice is known for its delicious seafood and wine, and there’s nothing more magical than dining in a quiet canal-side trattoria, enjoying the local cuisine as the sun sets over the water.
