take it from me when I say:

your wedding doesn't have to fit neatly into one culture

Maybe you've lived in Germany for years. Maybe you've built a life here more recently. Maybe you grew up somewhere else, fell in love with someone from a different culture, or the two of you have created a life together that doesn't fit neatly into either box.

Whatever your story looks like, planning a wedding that brings together different cultures, traditions, families, and expectations can come with a lot of little things to figure out. And if you want your wedding day to feel joyful and relaxed - to actually be present instead of constantly checking the timeline or wondering whether you're running behind - those little things matter.

As a Mexican-American living in Nuremberg and in love with an Italian-German boy (who was raised in Italy), I love working with international and intercultural couples who are making Germany home, just as I am. I know what it's like to build a life somewhere that isn't where you grew up, and to create your own version of what “home” looks like along the way.

As your Nuremberg wedding photographer, I'm here to help with the practical stuff, too: choosing locations for your photos, building a realistic timeline with enough breathing room to actually enjoy your day, and recommending local vendors when you need them.

You don't have to make your wedding fit neatly into one culture, one tradition, or one way of doing things. You get to make it yours. I'll help with the little things along the way. :)

FAQ

Do you offer wedding photography services outside of Nuremberg?

Yes! I'm based in Nuremberg and regularly photograph weddings throughout Bavaria, Germany, Italy, Greece, and even the USA. If you're getting married somewhere nearby in Franconia or have a destination wedding, just reach out and let me know what you're planning. I'll let you know what's possible and help you figure out the logistics.

Can you help us with local recommendations?

Absolutely! If you're planning your Nuremberg wedding and you're still figuring out the German wedding world, I'm happy to recommend local wedding venues, florists, makeup artists, videographers, pastry shops, and other vendors I've come across. I can also help you think through the little logistics that can be surprisingly difficult to figure out when you're navigating a wedding in a culture that isn't necessarily your own. :)

help, we're awkward in front of the camera!

Honestly? That's one of my favorite personalities to photograph! 😌

I'm much more interested in photographing the two of you being yourselves than creating a bunch of perfectly posed moments. We'll move around, talk, laugh, walk, and do things together rather than spending the whole time staring at the camera. I'll give you direction when you need it, but I'll also leave plenty of room for the moments that happen naturally.

And if you're still feeling a little awkward at the beginning, that's completely normal. You don't have to arrive feeling confident in front of a camera - we'll ease into it together.

How do you keep our wedding photography from taking over the day?

By planning ahead and keeping things realistic. We'll talk through your timeline beforehand and figure out when photos make the most sense, without trying to squeeze a two-hour photoshoot into a 20-minute window. I want you to have beautiful portraits, but I also want you to actually enjoy your cocktail hour, hug your grandma, dance with your friends, and eat your dinner while it's still warm. Your wedding is a celebration first; the photography should fit into that, not the other way around. :)

What happens if it rains on our Nuremberg wedding day?

German weather has a sense of humor, but we can work with it. I'll help you build a timeline and backup options that give us some flexibility, and if it rains during portraits, we'll figure out what makes the most sense in the moment. Sometimes that's waiting ten minutes for a shower to pass, finding somewhere covered, or embracing the weather and making some very good rainy-day photos. Either way, we'll have a plan and I'll be there to remind you that your wedding is still going to be a wonderful day.

How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer?

If you already have your wedding date and know you'd like to work together, I'd recommend reaching out as soon as you can, especially for popular summer and Saturday dates. That said, don't assume I'm unavailable just because your wedding is coming up soon! I sometimes have last-minute availability, so it's always worth asking. 😊

Do you photograph LGBTQIA+ ?

YES. Every love is welcome and celebrated here, always!!

What are your starting prices?

what makes a truly joyful wedding

(from a wedding photographer's perspective)

Be present, not performative

I personally don't think your wedding photos should just show you what your wedding looked like. I want them to bring you back to how it felt to be there - the people you loved, the ridiculous little moments, the way your partner looked at you, and all the things you didn't even realize were happening.

Your wedding is not a photoshoot with a party happening around it. It's a party that happens to be photographed. I want you to spend your day hugging your people, eating the cake, dancing badly, and actually being there. I'll make sure we get the photos you care about without asking you to spend your entire day performing for a camera.

Make space for your version of love

There is no one right way to have a wedding, celebrate a relationship, or look in a photograph. I want my couples to feel like they can show up exactly as they are, whether that's wildly affectionate, a little goofy, deeply sentimental, culturally specific, or some combination of all of the above. Your photos should feel like you, not like somebody else's idea of what a wedding is supposed to look like.

Photograph the things you'll miss later

The big moments are important, obviously. But I'm equally interested in the little things: your grandmother fixing your dress, your friends losing their minds on the dance floor, the way your dad looks at you when he thinks nobody's watching, or the tiny ritual you've had together for years. Those are the pieces that become part of your story, and the ones I hope you'll be most grateful to have years from now.

have the absolute time of your life

How do you create images that ooze with happiness? You have a really, really good time.

The laughing-so-hard-your-stomach-hurts speeches. The squinty-eyed smiles of your favorite people watching you say your vows. Getting completely unhinged on the dance floor to your favorite '90s song. Those moments ooze with love and joy because that's what's actually happening.

You've spent ages planning this day. Your Pinterest board is popping. You have a whole lot to celebrate. So focus on having the time of your life. I guarantee, images will reflect your joy and bring you straight back to that moment 50 years down the road!

"It's hard to put into words how wonderful Johanna is."

jessica & cliff - GERMANY

"It is hard to put into words how wonderful Johanna is. From the beginning I felt her warmth and joy even through a Zoom call. I felt like we were friends that had known each other already. She made every effort to make our special day as easy, fun, and full of love and laughs as possible. She’s very professional and sent our photos back in record time! We couldn’t be happier with choosing Johanna for our wedding and we look forward to the next photo shoots we can book with her. "
