David and Kristi's Spitzingsee Engagement Photoshoot
You may know Spitzingsee and Schliersee because of their cosy, picturesque charm, but would you believe they're just an hour south of the hustle and bustle of Munich? These Bavarian lakes are an oasis, deep in nature, and the perfect photoshoot location for any nature lovers. Once thing is for certain, David and Kristi couldn't have chosen a better location than Spitzingsee for their Engagement Photoshoot.
When David first reached out, he was excited to share this special place with Kristi. Though they both call California home, David grew up in Germany, and returning to these lakes held deep sentimental value for him. Showing Kristi the landscapes of his childhood made this session all the more meaningful. The vibe was: calm, relaxed, and maybe even throw a couple of beers into the mix! It's Bavaria after all!
So on a cool summer morning, we met up for their Engagement Photoshoot at Spitzingsee, the slightly smaller lake just south of Schliersee. Spitzingsee can be packed with swimmers and sun-bathers during the day, so we planned their session in the morning to avoid any big, bustling crowds. As a result, the lake was empty.
Can you believe we managed to get this beautiful location all to ourselves?!
Both Bavarian lakes exude calm, so if you're looking for the best location for your own photoshoot, you can't go wrong with either. However, there are a few things you may want to consider.
Schliersee is the larger of the two, is known for its vibrant yet tranquil atmosphere, with a picturesque village along its shores. It’s more accessible, with a direct train from Munich to Schliersee station in about an hour, making it a convenient getaway for visitors looking to enjoy lakeside strolls, boat rides, or even a visit to the famous Wasmeier Museum.
Spitzingsee, on the other hand, sits at a higher elevation, surrounded by rugged alpine beauty. It’s a bit more secluded, offering a more untouched and serene experience—perfect if you're wanting a peaceful hike with dramatic mountain views.
Yes, getting to Spitzingsee requires a little extra effort, but it’s worth it. From Munich, you can take the same train to Schliersee, then hop on a local bus or drive up the winding mountain road to reach the lake. This added step means Spitzingsee sees fewer crowds, making it feel even more like a hidden gem. Whether you’re drawn to the easygoing charm of Schliersee or the alpine tranquility of Spitzingsee, both lakes offer a perfect escape into nature—just a short trip from the city.
Spitzingsee couldn't have been a lovelier location for Kristi and David's engagement photoshoot. It was tender, giggly, and playful as heck.
