A Family Photoshoot in Nuremberg Old Town | Family Photographer Germany
A heartfelt family photoshoot through Weißgerbergasse, the Imperial Castle, and St. Sebalduskirche in the historic Old Town
There is something I have started noticing about family photographs: The moments we treasure most are rarely the ones we planned perfectly.
They're the small ones.
Gwen's hand reaching for her mom's neck to help untangle herher necklace, a giggle between Nixon and Jet, the way the kids climbed up the the golden Schöner Brunnen fountain to ring in their bit of luck. The reason I love photographing families isn't because children sit still or everyone looks perfect. Honestly, my favourite photographs usually happen in between.
After my own family spent two weeks visiting me in Germany, I found myself thinking about how quickly ordinary moments become the ones we wish we could return to. Maybe that's why I love being a family photographer in Nuremberg so much. For this family photoshoot in Nuremberg, we wandered through some of my favourite corners of the city: Weißgerbergasse, the Imperial Castle, and St. Sebalduskirche.
As we wandered through Nuremberg's Old Town, we made one very important stop at the Hauptmarkt. Some may pass by the Schöner Brunnen fountain, but others know that there's an adorable tradition: if you find the brass ring and turn it three times clockwise, you're promised a little bit of good luck. Obviously, the kids scaled their way up the small iron gate surrounding the fountain to turn the ring and give it a try!! I love these tiny rituals that cities collect over hundreds of years. :')
My approach to family photography in Nuremberg is simple: I don't want families to feel like they are performing. I want them to remember what this season of life actually felt like. We walk. We explore. We stop when something catches our attention. And yes, we let the kids roam, giggle, and let them simply be kids.
