Anniversary Photoshoot in Nuremberg, Germany

What a Relaxed, Unposed Couples Session Looks Like in kaiserberg, weissgerbergasse, and the old bridges in nuremberg city center

"Excuse me, would you mind taking a photo of us?" I've asked this question more times than I can count while traveling — crossing my fingers that the sweet stranger holding my phone does me some justice. Sometimes we get lucky. Other times the photo comes back blurry, my eyes are closed, or their "interesting angle" manages to capture all four of my chins. It's a gamble every time.

Thankfully, there's a much better solution - the one Jess and Gary went with. To celebrate their anniversary, they booked a couples photoshoot in Nuremberg, and honestly, it's one of my favorite ways for couples to mark a big trip or milestone! You get real, beautiful photos of you and your person looking your absolute cutest against one of the most romantic backdrops in Bavaria. And... if you book a local photographer, you also get a mini tour of the city's best-kept corners along the way!

Why Book a Couples Photoshoot in Nuremberg

Nuremberg has this dreamy mix of medieval charm and cozy, romantic detail around every corner, which makes it one of the most underrated cities in Germany for a couples or anniversary shoot. Autumn especially adds this warm, golden light through the Altstadt that you just don't get any other time of year.

For Jess and Gary's session, we kept things simple and let the city do most of the work.

Photo Locations: Kaiserburg, Weißgerbergasse & the Old Bridges

We started up at the Imperial Castle (Kaiserburg) for sweeping views over the rooftops of the Altstadt, then wandered down into Weißgerbergasse, with its row of colorful half-timbered houses that might be the most photogenic street in the whole city! From there, we stopped at a few of Nuremberg's old stone bridges along the Pegnitz River to round out the variety. I love how much variety these locations offer - water, architecture, and skyline, all within a short walk of each other!

If you're planning your own session, this route works well because it's fully walkable, doesn't require any transit between spots, and gives a nice mix of wide city shots and close-up, intimate portraits.

What a Relaxed, Unposed Couples Session Actually Looks Like

What I love most about sessions like this is how grounded and unforced they feel. It's not about hitting perfect poses or rushing between locations on a stopwatch, it's just the two of you, exploring somewhere new together, with me quietly third-wheeling with a camera. At one point Gary looked over at me and said, "I totally forgot we're even doing a photoshoot" which, for me, is always the goal. The best photos happen when people stop performing for the camera and just enjoy being together. :)

Now Jess and Gary have a full set of images that take them right back to that morning in Nuremberg, cobblestones underfoot, golden light, and just being present with each other.

Planning Your Own Nuremberg Anniversary Photoshoot

If you're headed to Bavaria for an anniversary, honeymoon, or just a meaningful trip with your favorite person, a couples photoshoot in Nuremberg is such a good way to mark it. A souvenir you'll keep forever that won't take up any space in your luggage!

A few things worth knowing if you're planning a photoshoot:

  • Best time of year: Late spring, summer, or autumn, or winter! Autumn (September–November) gives you warm golden light and fewer crowds than summer; late spring is a close second. Winter is also special because Nuremberg has their famous Christmas Markets!
  • Time of day for your session: Nuremberg is a tourist destination, especially in the summer and December. For that reason, I always recommend going for a morning session to ensure you have a quieter, cozy session.
  • How long a session runs: Most couples go with either a 1-hour or 2-hour session — plenty of time to cover 2–3 locations without feeling rushed. I always recommend going for the 2 hour session if it's not a family session, that way you have enough time to warm up in front of the camera.
  • Getting around: The Kaiserburg, Weißgerbergasse, and the old bridges are all walkable from each other in Nuremberg's compact Altstadt, so there's no need to plan transit between spots.

If you're curious what a session with me looks like, you can also check out another couples session through the Altstadt or browse the Nuremberg Portrait Session page for additional inspiration & information.
