Aubree & Brody's fairytale proposal in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany
Two sweethearts, Brody and Aubree, on their first trip to Europe together after graduating college, and Brody has a plan. He's planning his proposal in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a fairytale town in Bavaria - so dreamy, my mom even said "it looks like the town from Rapunzel!" after showing her a few photos. You know town - colourful, picturesque, filled with half-timbered homes? Funny enough, the reason it looks wildly similar is that Rapunzel was originally based in Germany. Not only is this an extremely romantic and beautiful location, but this was an extra special location for Brody because it's his grandmother’s home country, making this moment even more meaningful.
He had already found a perfect location, super-secret and intimate location free of tourists, which had a beautiful view of their famous double-bridge and the old town in the background.
As we were were on our call chatting about where exactly we would set up the location for the actual proposal, going back and forth on whether the bridge would be in the foreground, he told me:
“Even if we can’t get in the bridge in the background of the image, it’s okay. I’m just so excited to be engaged to Aubree.”
I immediately knew his heart was in the right place - for him, it wasn’t about big, fancy image or about the look of it all. In fact, it was everything I stand for as a photographer - celebrating a real life moment. Something honest and true, putting feeling above all else.
In the day of the absolute peak of instagram we’re living in, where everything is oh-so-visual, this simple refocus on the feeling and commitment was beautiful. This is what it’s all about. Being engaged to the love of your life!
