Where to plan your proposal in Munich, Germany
If you're looking for an intimate, beautiful, and easy to access location for your proposal in Munich, I've got some good news for you.
If you're reading this then I'm guessing you're probably looking to propose to the love of your life in Munich and you're investing in the time doing research on where to go! If that's the case, I've got some great options for you in this blog post (and a quick video above!) with some of my favorite locations that I would suggest to you, if you're looking for a dream proposal location in Munich.
Although the proposal isn't the *most* important aspect of a proposal (something straight from the heart done with love and intention is, in my opinion, most important aspect of a proposal. And I'll tell ya what - after photographing dozens of engagements, it also seems to be the best received :') ) but a location really does set the scene - and lets face it, it creates a really beautiful moment with a location you can always feel like is a little bit *yours*. And that's sort of magic, isn't it?
In my opinion, the best proposal isn't the best known place, like a major city landmark. Instead, it's a place that can marry 3 different points of criteria (or if you're working with a photographer : 1. beauty 2. intimacy (the chance for you two to share a private moment), 3. the overall access to the location itself, and 4. how easy it is to integrate a photographer into the moment (how to let you know where to stand, blending into the background, getting you some beautiful images of the moment unfolding!)
That being said, here are my current top 3 suggested locations in Munich, Germany for your proposal with a ranking each criteria from 0-10. Let's go!
Nymphenburg Palace
Beauty: 10/10
It's incredibly beautiful, filled with old English statues, manicured lawns, it feels so grand!!
Intimacy: 8/10
Considering the Nymphenburg palace is on a massive park/garden, there is plenty of walking room. Even if it's full, there is plenty of space for it to still feel like you can have a moment just the two of you.
Access to Location: 8/10
The Nymphenburg Palace easy to get to, but it is a bit outside of the city center - part of the reason these gardens never feel super full, I think. You'll need to take a tram for about 15-20 minutes from the main train station (tickets on the tram cost 3.50 EUR) and you'll get off at the tram stop "Schloss Nymphenburg". The walk from there is a beautiful one, and will take 10 minutes to arrive to the main gate or could be a 15 minute leisurely walk if you take your time.
Ease of photographer logistics: 10/10
There are plenty of people around with cameras, so having a camera out will be no issue. I can easily help tell you where to stand with a beautiful background with ease, it's relatively easy to orient yourself.
Hofgarten
Beauty: 9.5/10
I have to knock .5 points off of the Hofgarten because depending on the day, it can feel pretty busy. However, it's absolutely stunning!! The gardens are filled with gorgeous flowers, there are cute arched walking paths around the outside of the garden, and the little gazebo in the center is truly beautiful.
Intimacy: 5/10
As mentioned above, the Hofgarten gets busy and can feel difficult to find a spot without having people in the background of photos.
Access to location: 10/10
Insane location - It's smack dab in the center of town!
Ease of photographer logistics: 10/10
So easy to blend into being another tourist with a camera, while secretly documenting your special moment! Ease with letting you know beforehand where to stand since there are distinct buildings you can use to orient yourself. Not an issue whatsoever.
English Gardens
Beauty: 7/10
It's a massive sprawling park that's very well maintained - such a cute place to go to in the summer, there are people hanging out, picnicking, and there is even a small area of the river inside of the gardens where you can surf! But, you know, it's a park - not a palace.
Intimacy: 7/10
Sure - it's a huge park, so you can definitely find a quiet pocket for your proposal here.
Access to location: 7/10
It's pretty close to the city center, it just requires some walking / bus navigation to get to!
Ease of photographer logistics: 6/10
Less super distinct buildings and things to orient yourself with, could easily feel confusing to know how to get to the location.
